Our urban planners approached the Bel Air Asheville master plan with the same obsessive attention to detail that defines every aspect of the resort. Nature preservation is not a constraint in our master plan, it is the organizing principle. Every planning decision was made in service of protecting that. Trees were mapped before lots were drawn. Density was deliberately restrained. Intimacy and privacy were engineered into the layout from the very first sketch.
The relationship between the resort and the residential community is itself a masterpiece of thoughtful planning. Residents access their homes by driving through the resort, a deliberate design choice that eliminates through traffic, preserves the calm of the residential enclave, and ensures that the only people present in the community are those who belong there. The effect is immediate and unmistakable, a level of serenity and seclusion that gated communities alone rarely achieve.
